A meteor has been spotted as local police received “hundreds” of calls.
Houston Air Traffic Control were alerted about the sighting by two aircraft on Wednesday night.
Police in South Texas received calls shortly before 6pm, with some residents claiming the ground was shaking.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra confirmed the initial sighting.
However, he could not say if the meteorite hit the ground or where it might have ended up.
Mr Guerra said: “Where the exact point of impact is unknown.
“No reports of any damage in that area has been received.”
