Armed police on scene and school evacuated in Huddersfield with pupils told to ‘stay away’ | UK | News

Armed police descended on a college in Yorshire this morning after pupils were “evacuated”.

Firearms officers are understood to have raced to the scene at Kirklees College, in Huddersfield, West Yorks.

Police were seen at the college on Manchester Road today (Thursday March 23) and eye witnesses reported around four or five police cars outside the campus with students calling parents to tell them they have been evacuated, Yorkshire Live reports.

The College themselves have confirmed that the building was evacuated. However, the Yorkshire Live said the police have revealed they were responding to a report of malicious communications, which then confirmed a hoax call.

Kirklees College said: “This morning, we instigated our evacuation procedures at our Huddersfield Centre.

“This matter is now being dealt with by West Yorkshire Police. We will update this page when the building is reopened. Thank you.”
