Zelensky invokes Churchill during inspiring speech on ‘how bravery rewards with victory’ | Politics | News

Volodymyr Zelensky today spoke of how “bravery takes you through the most unimaginable hardships to finally reward you with victory” as he recalled a visit to the Churchill War Rooms.

The Ukrainian President described a trip to London in 2020 during a speech to Parliament.

Mr Zelensky said: “Mr Prime Minister, Rishi, when we had our meeting today and I said to you that I will tell a story in my address to the Parliament and a story about my feelings on my first visit to London as president in autumn 2020.”

He said the programme was “packed” with visits to Buckingham Palace, Westminster and Downing Street.

Mr Zelensky told how he sat in Sir Winston Churchill’s in the historic War Rooms before a guide asked him: “How did I feel?”

Mr Zelensky said: “And I said that I suddenly felt something.

“But it is only now that I know what the feeling was.

“And all Ukrainians know it perfectly well too.

“It is a feeling of how bravery takes you through the most unimaginable hardships to finally reward you with victory.”
