Sarah Michelle Gellar Reveals if She’s Returning for ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Reboot

Sarah Michelle Gellar is back to slay another day.

More than 20 years after Buffy the Vampire Slayer concluded its run, the actress is in final negotiations to reprise her iconic role as Buffy Summers in a revival of the hit series on Hulu, E! News confirms.

The new TV show—which does not yet have a name—is being heralded as “the next chapter in the Buffyverse” from 20th Television and Searchlight TV.

The first episode of the sequel series is set to be directed by Oscar winner Chloe Zhao, while original Buffy creator Joss Whedon will reportedly not be involved in the project following misconduct allegations that surfaced in 2021, per the outlets. (Whedon declined E! News’ request for comment at the time.)

E! News has reached out to Hulu and 20th Television, as well as a rep for Whedon, for comment.

One day before the news broke, Sarah, 47, seemingly hinted at the reboot without saying much at all. In a reference to the teen drama, which aired from 1997 to 2003, she posted a photo on Instagram Feb. 2 wearing a pair of “yummy sushi pajamas” identical to the ones she wore in a season four episode of the series, captioning the image with nothing more than a sushi emoji.
